Monday afternoon Decorah senior, Emma Bachelder, signed her national letter of intent, with a half-scholarship, to participate in Division I swimming at South Dakota State in Brookings, S. D.
“From the minute I stepped on the campus it felt like my home away from home and the girls that I met were welcoming,” said Bachelder of her experience in visiting the South Dakota State campus.
During the last four years as a Viking, Bachelder has been a standout and leader for the Decorah girls swimming and diving program. She was a four-time state qualifier in multiple events including the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle as well as the 200-medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Her state highlights include finishing ninth in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle in 2018. This year, Bachelder posted a ninth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke and was sixth in the 200 freestyle. Bachelder also was a key member of the 2017 and 2019 North Central Swim Conference champion teams for Decorah and was named Conference Athlete of the Year for the 2019 annual meet.
Outside of swimming, she is involved in track and field, D-Club and National Honor Society.
Emma is the daughter of Kelly and Allie Bachelder.
