All veterans and community members are welcome to join the Ossian American Legion as they hold honors at area cemeteries. Everyone is asked to be aware of social distancing.
The cemetery schedule is as follows: 7:45 a. m., Bethany Lutheran; 8
a. m., First Lutheran; 8:15 a. m., Stavanger Lutheran; 8:30 a. m., Silver Springs (honoring those lost at sea); 8:45 a. m., Hillside Cemetery; 9 a. m., Bloomfield; and 9:15 a. m., Castalia Veterans Memorial; 9:30 a. m., Pleasant View; 9:45
a. m., Centennial; 10 a. m., St. Francis De Sales Cemetery; 10:15 a. m., final memorial salute at the Veterans Memorial at Carey Park.
Because of health concerns, the memorial program and parade will be canceled this year.
The bridge ceremony, parade and
courthouse ceremony have been canceled.
An abbreviated ceremony will be broadcast starting at 10 a. m. over radio stations KVIK and KDEC. The names of the deceased veterans of Winneshiek County since last Memorial Day, followed by Jim Burns’ message that he shared a year ago.
There will be a short ceremony at the three cemeteries — consisting of a color guard and firing squad. After the firing of the ceremonial volley, taps will be played and that will close the ceremony.
The schedule is as follows: 11 a. m. at the Lutheran Cemetery near the Mausoleum; 11:15 at Phelps Cemetery near the maintenance shed; 11:30 at the East end of the Catholic Cemetery.
