As of press time Wednesday morning, 21 people have tested positive for having the coronavirus in Winneshiek County.
That published number of confi rmed COVID-19 cases is an increase from Monday's number of 20 cases locally.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health "COVID-19 in Iowa" website, 18 of those 21 patients have recovered.
Winneshiek County Public Health Nurse Krista Vanden Brink said the remaining local cases are under isolation managing symptoms.
When asked about the status of PPE (personal protective equipment) in this area, Vanden Brink said "We're told by the state that PPE stockpiles for Iowa are stable."
PPE includes protective clothing, gloves, face shields, goggles, facemasks, respirators, gowns, aprons, coveralls, or other equpmente designed to protect the wearer from injury or the spread of infection or illness.
The website lists nearby Howard County with a reported 12 cases, Chickasaw County with seven cases, Fayette County with 25, Clayton County with 30, and Allamakee County with 116. positive cases.
