The South Winn volleyball team (0-3) headed on their road to Cresco for their third match of the season Thursday night. With the JJV and JV picking up wins to kick-off the night against Crestwood, the varsity couldn’t quite put together a full set performance to pull out a win versus the Cadets, dropping the sets, 22-25, 16-25 and 22-25.

Madison Kriener paced the way with six kills and three blocks. Ali Heying had eight assists and Eryn Luzum led the defense with 13 digs. Stepping up for some big serves was Emily Michels going 15-for-15 with two aces.

“We talked about making progress over the past week, and I felt like we did have some positives to take away from the evening. Our serve percentage was up, we got the ball to our hitters more and our serve receive made some improvements,” said Coach Alex Smith. “We got caught in a couple service runs by Crestwood and need to find our way out of rotations. Our energy and positivity continue to make me feel good about where we can get in the coming weeks.”

The Warriors were back on the court Saturday, Sept. 5, at the New Hampton tournament. Match results and stats will be published in the Thursday, Sept. 10, Public Opinion.

South Winn will not return to action until Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Warriors take part in the Jesup tournament beginning at 9 a. m.
