Since 2012, the Iowa Food Hub has been bringing healthy, locally grown food to schools, colleges, restaurants and grocery stores in the Winneshiek County region as part of a non-profit mission.
The Food Hub partners with local farmers to bring their fresh produce directly to the doors of area residents. A year ago, Iowa Food Hub started a new phase of the journey to bring local food to the region. The Food Hub changed its model and prepared to test new strategies with interim help from Teresa Wiemerslage and Kayla Koether.
Peter Kraus of Decorah has recently been named the new coordinator for the Food Hub.
A native of Winneshiek County, Kraus graduated from Luther College. He took his first-hand knowledge of growing food into culinary arts, working in many commercial kitchens. His experience on farms and in kitchens will help him meet the needs of local farmers and customers with whom he reaches out.
Subscribers to the Food Hub can enjoy curbside pick-up and home delivery options on Saturdays in Decorah. Dropoff sites are utilized on Tuesdays in Waukon and West Union.
Members of the Iowa Food Hub Board are Lynn Isvik, Alice Runde, Hannah Breckbill and Kim Baker.
