West Union welcomes new Señor Cantina Grill

West Union is welcoming a new Mexican restaurant to its already vibrant eating scene.

Señor Cantina Grill held its soft opening last week, offering free tacos and introducing its owners to the community. The four family members –Andres Valencia, Chris Castro and Omar and Maritza Torres –live in Wisconsin and own three other restaurants there.

Don Cinco de Mayo in Tomah and Cinco de Mayo in Black River Falls were both founded by the Valencia family in 2010, and have developed reputations for what online reviewers consistently have praised as the restaurants’ “authentic Mexican cuisine,” large portions, reasonable prices and “fun, colorful” décor.

In December 2019, Torres joined his cousins as partner when the family opened Corona’s Cantina Grill in West Salem. Torres, himself, brings 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry –from Italian restaurants and steak-houses to other Mexican eateries –and specializes in street tacos and pasta dishes.

Two people who can attest to the quality of the family’s food are Kevin and Pam Cline, of West Union, owners of the building housing Señor Cantina Grill.

“This used to be a Mexican restaurant,” Pam said. “Before that, it was a smokehouse barbeque place. It has been a restaurant for a while.”

They knew they wanted another Mexican restaurant on the site –so the couple took some road trips, trying out Mexican restaurants in the region. They found
