their way to Don Cinco de Mayo, in Tomah, and loved the food. They approached the family and asked them if they would consider opening another restaurant in West Union.

“The guys drove by and liked the place, so we worked out a deal,” Pam said.

The family’s pride in the food they offer and in the success of their restaurants was evident during Señor Cantina Grill’s soft opening, as trays of chicken and beef tacos were brought out to appreciative customers and Torres welcomed everyone to the new restaurant.

“This is like an appetizer,” he said. “Wait for our main dishes –come back and taste them.”

The menu will feature the burritos, chimichangas, fajitas and enchiladas North Americans have come to expect and enjoy –as well as a variety of house specialties and combination plates. In addition, though, Señor Cantina Grill customers will be treated to the family-friendly restaurant’s take on the Mexican street taco.

“In Mexico, street tacos are known as being better than other tacos,” Torres said. Unlike many tacos in the U. S.

–served in either a hard, crunchy shell or a soft flour tortilla and filled with meat, beans or rice and garnished with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion (a kind of “open-faced burrito”) –street tacos are, traditionally, more simple. Typically, they are smaller and served warm in hand-sized corn tortillas. The smaller size makes it easier for a “street traveler” to enjoy a quick meal. They might be filled with a spiced meat and garnished only with some onion, cilantro and hot sauce.

Valencia said the family will adapt to local tastes and preferences and is happy to take customer suggestions. If a less spicy version of a dish is asked for, the team will accommodate that preference.

“They like suggestions,” Pam said. “These guys are really willing to help people get their food the way they like it.”
