The City of Decorah Planning & Zoning Commission held a public hearing on the rezoning of the Dahlen property Monday, Jan. 11. Public hearings on the right-of-refusal and conditional rezoning agreement were previously held Monday, Dec. 20, 2020.
The Dahlen agricultural property is located on the east edge of Decorah’s city limits just north of the Walmart Supercenter, along Old Stage Road/County Road A52. The property is currently zoned F-1 (flood plain). Possible future designation is C-4 (shopping center commercial).
The 16.75 acres of the larger (139) acre parcel are designated for possible rezoning. Concerning the resolution to approve a recommendation to rezone, the commis-sion recommended approval in a 6-1 vote. Joel Zook cast the no vote.
On the issue of a conditional zoning agreement, the commission recommended approval of the agreement that states conditions under which zoning may occur. These conditions include: seeking a permit for floodplain fill from the Board of Adjustment; site plan approval; action completion within a 2-year time frame. A 7-0 vote approved the recommendation.
