The Center Stage Series brings Nobuntu to the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther College campus Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p. m.

Nobuntu is a remarkable and lively a capella quintet from Zimbabwe. This all female group relies on their rich voices, authentic dance and minimal use of traditional Zimbabwean instruments such as the Mbira (thumb piano). Nobuntu has drawn international acclaim for their inventive performances that celebrate Afro jazz, gospel and traditional Zimbabwean songs.

“I really got excited about hosting Nobuntu from Zimbabwe when Jayme Stone and Moira Smiley (two Center Stage guests who performed at Luther in October) said ‘You’re getting Nobuntu?! They are unbelievable. We’re major fans,’” said Kristen Underwood, director of campus programming. “When musicians I really respect get giddy at the mention of another artist’s name, you know they’re going to be something special. This is a concert everyone will enjoy.”

Nobuntu was nominated for Best Musician of the Year at the Zimbabwe International Women Awards in London in 2015. They are also a two-time winner for the Best Imbube Group at the Bulawayo Arts Awards in 2017 and 2019.
